Judge Michael Wu - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Michael Wu is a judge for the Hartford Judicial District Superior Court in Connecticut. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Dannel Malloy in 2018.

Wu has presided over the Litchfield Judicial District Superior Court. He currently sits on the Community Court for the Hartford Judicial District.

Prior to his appointment, Wu worked for Connecticut Legal Services, where he served as a consumer law attorney (2017 to 2018) and a managing attorney (2018). Before that, he was legal counsel in the Law Offices of James Wu, handling civil litigation and commercial arbitration matters (2014 to 2017). He also spent time as associate counsel at the Otis Elevator Company (1999 to 2014).

Wu earned a bachelor’s degree from Blackburn College (1977) and an M.Div. from Yale University (1981). He then completed a J.D. at Western New England University School of Law in 1983. He is admitted to practice in Connecticut (1983) and the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut (1983).

After graduating from law school, Wu began his legal career as an associate at Howd & Ludorf in Hartford. He worked in that capacity until 1986, at which time he joined the Litigation Department of United Technologies Corporation, working as its counsel for the Otis Elevator Company, Pratt & Whitney, and Hamilton Standard.

His memberships have included the American Bar Association, the Connecticut Bar Association, and the American Corporation Counsel Association.

Wu was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut. A resident of Canton, he and his wife have three children. They attend First Baptist Church of Plymouth. Wu is bilingual in English and Spanish.

He is registered as a Democrat.
