Biography

The Hon. Peter K. Ottenweller is a judge for the Superior Court of Sonoma County in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in December 2010, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Arnold D. Rosenfield.

Ottenweller earned a B.A. from New College in California in 1976. He then completed a J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1980.

He began his legal career in 1981. He first worked as a deputy city attorney in the Civil Rights Division of the Human Rights Commission of the City of Omaha. The following year, he joined the Office of the Public Defender of San Francisco County as a deputy public defender.

Then, in 1984, he entered private practice, accepting a position at James, Gack & Freeman. He practiced there for seven years, eventually leaving to start his own private practice as a sole practitioner. Over the course of his legal career, he has specialized in real property, construction, business, corporation, insurance, and personal injury matters.

His memberships have included the Sonoma County Bar Association and the Redwood Empire Trial Lawyers Association.

Ottenweller was born in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

He is registered as a Democrat.
