Biography

The Hon. Leah R. Case is a judge for the 7th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Charlie Crist on December 21, 2010, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Patrick G. Kennedy.

The 7th Judicial Circuit encompasses Flagler County, Putnam County, St. Johns County, and Volusia County. Case has held assignments in Volusia County, presiding over criminal, juvenile dependency, and dependency drug court cases.

Case earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida. She then completed her J.D. at the University of Florida, Fredric G. Levin College of Law, in 1993.

After graduating from law school, Case began her legal career as an assistant state attorney in the Office of the State Attorney for the 7th Judicial Circuit. During her sixteen-year tenure there, she handled a number of high-profile murder cases, including the Deltona massacre case (2006). She supplemented her service with work as a special assistant United States attorney in the Office of the United States Attorney (2002 to 2003) as well as an attorney at Smith, Hood, Perkins, Louks & Stoudt (1998).
