The Hon. Leah R. Case is a Circuit Judge for the Seventh Judicial Circuit Court of Florida in Volusia County. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Charlie Crist on December 21, 2010, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Patrick G. Kennedy. She was subsequently elected in 2012. Judge Case is currently assigned to the Civil Division.
Over the course of her judicial career, Case has held assignments in the Juvenile Dependency, Dependency Drug Court, and Criminal Divisions of the Volusia County Circuit Court.
Case earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and completed her J.D. at the University of Florida, Fredric G. Levin College of Law, in 1993.
After graduating from law school, Case began her legal career as an Assistant State Attorney in the Office of the State Attorney for the Seventh Judicial Circuit in 1994. She handled a number of high-profile murder cases, including the Deltona massacre case (2006). During her sixteen-year tenure there, she rose through the ranks, eventually becoming Deputy Chief for Volusia County.
Case was specially appointed to serve as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Office of the United States Attorney from 2002 to 2003. She also worked briefly as an attorney with Smith, Hood, Perkins, Louks & Stoudt in 1998.
On October 23, 2017 an auto negligence case was filed
in the jurisdiction of Volusia County.
