Judge Joseph S. Dueker - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Joseph S. Dueker is a circuit judge for the 21st Judicial Circuit Court (Division 4) of Missouri. He was appointed to the position by former Governor Jay Nixon in 2016, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Thomas J. Prebil (Ret.).

The 21st Judicial Circuit includes St. Louis County.

Dueker was first appointed an associate judge for the 21st Judicial Circuit Court by Governor Nixon in 2010.

Prior to beginning his judicial career, he was a prosecutor for over seventeen years with the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. During that time, Dueker spent ten years assigned to the sexual assault team and was later promoted to associate chief trial attorney in 2008.

He received a B.A. in economics and history from the University of Richmond in 1989. Dueker went on to complete a J.D. at Saint Louis University School of Law in 1992.

His memberships have included the St. Louis County Bar Association and the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis.

From a civic standpoint, Dueker has been involved with the BAMSL Mock Trial Competition and the Special Needs Soccer Association.

He resides in St. Louis County with his wife and their two children. Dueker is a member of Christ, Prince of Peace Catholic Church, where he has served as a volunteer for the Sandwich Ministry.
