Judge Helen E. Williams - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Helen E. Williams is a judge for the Superior Court of Santa Clara County in California. She was appointed to the bench by former governor Jerry Brown on November 21, 2012, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Douglas K. Southard.

Williams earned a B.A. from the University of California, Santa Cruz. She then completed a J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1986.

She began her legal career in 1987. She first worked as an attorney at Williams & Williams. Then, in 1999, she joined Olimpia, Whelan & Lively. She practiced there for the next two years, eventually moving to Robinson & Woods in 2001.

Prior to her appointment to the bench, Williams served as an appellate court attorney for the California Sixth District Court of Appeal from 2004 to 2012.

She is certified as an appellate specialist by the California State Bar.

Williams is registered as a Democrat.
