In dwelling units where the ceiling height of a room open to the haOway serving the bedrooms exceeds that of the hallway by 24 inches (610 mm) or more, smoke alanns shall be installed in the hallway and in the adjacent room. Smoke alarms shall sound an alaim audible in all sleeping areas of the dwelling unit in which they are k)cated. In new construction, required smoke alanns shall receive their primary power from a commercial source and have a battery back up as per 2001 CBC Section 3t0.9.1. B-2 When the valuatton of an addition, alteration or repair to a Group R Occupancy exceeds $1000 and a penmit is required, or when one or more sleeping rooms are added or created in existing Group R Occupancies, smoke alarms shall be installed in accordance with CBC Sections 310.9.2. Emeigency escape or rescue windows shall have a finished sill height not more than 44 inches atiove the floor as per 2001 CBC Section 310A Emergency egress windows for basements shall open to a window well constructed in accordance with the provisions of 2001 CBC Section 310A ABB-0607 B-4 All Group U Occupancies attached to Group R, Dhfision 3 Occupancies shall lie separated by ' materjais approved fbr one-hour fire-resistive construction. The separation may be limited to the garage skle only and requires a self-closing, tight fitting solid wood door 1 3/8 inches in thickness or a self-dosing, tight fitting door having a tested fire protection rating of not less than 20 minutes. 2001 CBC Section 302A, Exception 3. Note: All members supporting such separation shall be of equivalent fire-resistive construction as per 2001 CBC Section 302. Under no dreumstance shall a private garage have any opening into a room used for sleeping purposes as per 2001 CBC Section 312.4. All electrical ttoxes on opposite sMes of the wall shall be separated by a horizontal distance of not less then 24 inches as per 2001 CBC Section 709.7. Two or more risers constitute a stairway as per 2001 CBC Section 1003.3.3. B-13 Guardrails in Groups R-3 and U-1 shall be a minimum of 36 inches high. Open guardrails shall have intermediate raite or an omamental pattem such that a sphere 4 inches in diameter cannot pass through as per 2001 CBC Section 509. Unless ottiemnse pennitted or required by the dryer manufacturer's instellation instructions and by the building offk:^l, domestic dryer moisture exhaust ducte shall not exceed a totel combined horizontel and vertical length of 14 feet including two 90 degree elbows. Two feet shall be deductedforeach 90 degree elbow in excess of two as per 2001 CMC Section 504.3. M-2 When a closet is designed fbr the instellation of a clothes dryer, a minimum opening of 100 square inch^ for make up air shall be provkied in ttie door or by other approved means as per 2001 CMC Section 504.3.2. M-3 The Installation of a listed cooking appliance or microwave oven over afistedcooking appliance shall conform to the conditions of the upper appliance's listing and the manufacturers' Instellation instructions as per 2001 CMC Section 917 J . M-4 Ducts for domestic kitchen downdraft grill-range ventilation shall be instelled as per 2001 CMC Section 504.2.
