Our Systems" staffhas extensive experience in theengineering and design of "Access (Scaffolds,Swings, 5ystems" Construction Hoists), "Construction (Temporary Enclosures, Rigging, Pedestrian Protection), Systems" "Building Stabilization (Shoring, Bracing, Jacking),and "Deme!!tion Operations". Plan B Engineering performs a wide range of consulting and engineering activitiesrelated to structuralanalysis and design with a focus on construction services. Structural angiñêêriag expertise includes: Historic methods of construction, Codes and standards for temporary elements, Techniques for structural stabilization,Demolition operation, both selective and gross, Stabilityanalysis, Design and detailingof systems for temporary use and reuse, cantr:Lting to committees formulating codes and standards, Integration of premanufactured compenents with custom fabricated details and existingstructures. We are Profescione!!y Ucensed as Structural Engineers inallstates. Plan B Eñgiñêêring maintains in-depth knowledge of codes and standards including AiSC, ACI, AWS, ASME, ANSI, SIA,ASCE, ASTM, PCI, AISI, AFPA, ATC, NMCA, OSHA, IBC, FEMA, AASHTO and a hostof localbuilding codes and industry practices. On June 20th, (atyour request), a representative of PlanB Engiñêêring visitedthe above referenced project site, the purpose of the visitwas to perform a visualinspection, (thiswas limited to a visual inspection taken from the sidewalk the 'only', bridge deck structure from the top was not viewed nor its built' construction inspected), and toconfirm a number of key 'as dimensions, eg the structural member sizes used and the overall plan area of the side walk bridge. The sidewalk bridge structuralmembers at height were measured by the neighboring properties superintendent with the use of a ladder, (requested measurements taken were directed by PlanB), the remainder were taped out at grade. We can confirm the following information, FILED: NEW YORK COUNTY CLERK 09/08/2020 01:52 PM INDEX NO. 150228/2017 NYSCEF DOC. NO. 195 RECEIVED INDEX NYSCEF: NO . 09/08/2020 15022 8 / 2017 CÈ D C. 6. 31 REÔ Ó E 2 0Û0 7 019 • 2'-0" The 54 bridge deck support structure was erected @ approx. o.c. • W12x35 steelbeams were used for the span beam, over the width of the sidewalk. long (3) • W8x15 header beams support the W12 beams above. • 3" Nominally braced Dia pipe shoring frames, (approx. 16ftin height),transfer loads to grade. • The bridge plan span area is approx. 33ft 16ft. by Using the above gathered information, and a review of the NYC DOB approved permit set,(app!!cation # 122424858), a number of calculations were done to cõñfirm or otherwise determine the capacity of the structural members used. Listed below are our findings, • The Central W12 bridge deck member is goodfor approx. 105 psf impased and the edge load, W12's approx. 210psf. • The W8 header beam is good for approx. 55 psf imposed load. • And the Shed for approx. 70psf imposed load,(NOTE, this assumes the does not leg leg sway laterally, which itcould as itsunrestrained). This value reduces to approx. 50psf if sway is accounted for,(a k=1.5 value used, and no additional reduction has been accGünted for due to any P-delta moments). design" built" Based on these calculations we can determine thatthe "approved permit and the "as sidewalk bridge structure does not meet the New York Building code minimally required 300psf imposed loading criteria,as setout inclause 3307.6.4, (Design and Construction of sidewalk sheds). As advised by you the side walk bridge was erected approximately 18 month ago as overhead protection for a local11 repair/survey to the building at 270 West End Ave, NYC, and since inthis case the NYC built' building code required 300psf is reallyconsidered an accidental load, the 'as structure asis,is inno danger of collapsing and we observed no slaments of the sidewalk shed thatare loose or otherwise at riskof fallingfrom the shed. However, if this side walk bridge is toremain in place we recommend that additional lateralbracing be installed to prõvide lateral stiffnessand robustness and that the long span bridge section, (infront of 266 West End Ave, NY),beams, header and shoring frames be brought up to allow for a Code minimum of 300psf imposed load.
