Judge Lori S. Sattler: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Lori S. Sattler is a justice for the New York County Supreme Court (Civil Term) in the First Judicial District of New York. She was elected to the bench in 2017.

Sattler earned a B.A. from the University of Rochester. She then completed a J.D. from Emory University School of Law in 1990 and an L.L.M. from New York University School of Law in 2000.

After graduating from law school, Sattler served as a court attorney for the New York City Housing Court from 1990 to 2000. During this time, she also served as a principal law clerk and executive assistant to the Hon. Jacqueline W. Silbermann of the New York State Unified Court System.

Then, in 2000, Sattler entered into private practice, where she worked for the next five years. At that time, she returned to the New York State Unified Court System, serving as a principal law clerk to the Hon. Phyllis Gangel-Jacob until 2006.

Sattler began her judicial career as a judge for the Civil Court of the City of New York. She was elected to the bench in 2007 but quickly assigned to the Bronx County Family Court by the Chief Administrative Judge. Then, in 2012, she was designated an active justice of the New York County Supreme Court.

She has served as co-chair of the Matrimonial Committee of the New York Women’s Bar, chair of the Advisory Committee to the Administrative Judge of the Family Court of New York City, and as a board member of the Judges and Lawyers Breast Cancer Alert.

Sattler is registered as a Democrat.
