The goals of the child support agency may not be the same as yours. DATA PRACTICES: You have certain rights concerning private or confidential data asked from you by the state or local child support agency. When the child support agency asks you for private or confidential information, you have the right to know: Why the agency is collecting the information. How the agency will use the information. If the law requires you to give the information. If you may refuse the information. What happens if you refuse to give the information. Who the agency allows to see the information. If you are requesting interactive video you must make the request at least five (5) days before the hearing. HEARING PROCEDURE: This is a court hearing. The hearing will be held according to the provisions of the Minnesota Rules of the Expedited Child Support Process. These rules are available from your local law library. The rules inform you how to obtain information before the hearing and how to obtain subpoenas. Hearings are generally open to the public. EVIDENCE NEEDED: Each party must bring to the hearing any witnesses and all written evidence the party intends to present. Each party must have enough copies for all other parties as well as for the Court. If any party needs information to support or respond to the Complaint or Motion, that party should immediately notify the other party and make arrangements for exchange of information. The parties must cooperate in providing the requested information. Documents should be exchanged before the hearing. Examples of documents that may be requested or needed for the hearing include pay stubs, W-2 forms, signed tax returns, bank statements, proof of medical insurance for dependents, medical and dental bills, child care expense statements from child care providers and other documents relating to income, assets and expenses.
