We are in the middle of an unprecedented COVID-19 global pandemic. This unprecedented public health crisis has created immense challenges for the legal system. In response to this pandemic, the Governor of California and the Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court have issued orders allowing courts to continue cases, waive requirements, extend deadlines, and allow remote appearances. This San Joaquin court has also issued similar orders allowing leniency when parties are unable to meet deadlines due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Covid pandemic has also affected arbitration. Recently, an experienced arbitrator announced that “[t]hese are times that call for the better angels of the legal profession.” (Charles H.
