Before the Court is the Motion of Defendant Bitmain Technologies Holding Company, (Bitmain) For a Protective Order Regarding the Adequacy of Plaintiff Cryplex, Inc.’s (Cryplex) Trade Secret Disclosure under California Code of Civil Procedure Section 2019.210. The Motion is opposed by Cryplex.
Bitmain was formed in 2013. Bitmain claims to have pioneered the technology of using ASCI computer chips to solve the computational problems required to mine for cryptocurrency. According to Bitmain, before their development of new technology, cryptocurrency miners relied on slow, but widely available off-the-shelf computer processors for this task. The use of ASCI computer chips dramatically increased the speed at which the computational problems could be solved, thereby giving cryptocurrency miners an advantage over those using other methods of solving the problems.
