Nature of Proceedings: Petition for Writ of Mandate On October 6, 2016, Chief Deputy District Attorney Kelly D. Scott sent a supplement to Mr. Winslow advising him that it does not retain custody of physical evidence and directing him to submit his request to the Santa Maria Police Department, which is the agency that handles physical exhibits. This satisfactorily discharges the District Attorney’s obligation to “assist the member of the public [to] make a focused and effective request” and to “[d]escribe the . . . physical location in which the [responsive] records exist.” (Gov. Code, § 6253.1.) The District Attorney has fulfilled its obligation under the California Public Records Act. The petition is denied accordingly. Petitioner’s request to continue the matter to allow time for the Santa Maria Police Department to respond to his subpoena duces tecum is denied.
