Judge Z. Joseph Young - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Z. Joseph Young is an associate district judge for the Grady County District Court in Oklahoma. He was elected to the bench in 2018, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. John E. Herndon.

Prior to his election, Young presided as a judge for the Chickasha Municipal Court.

Young earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1993. He then completed a J.D. at Oklahoma City University School of Law in 1996.

After graduating from law school, Young entered into private practice at the Rivas Law Office in Chickasha. Later, he partnered with Rodney Fergason, opening the Law Office of Fergason & Young. He worked in that capacity until his election to the bench, handling family, criminal, and civil litigation.

His memberships have included the Chickasha Optimist Club, the Chickasha Chamber of Commerce, and the Chickasha City Council.

Young was raised on a farm in Caddo and Comanche Counties, where he helped his parents and his grandparents with their farming and oil and gas production operations. He graduated from Cement Public School. His wife, Julie, has taught at Grand Avenue Elementary School in Chickasha. They have two adult sons and attend College Heights Baptist Church.
