Biography

The Hon. Yvonna C. Abraham is a judge for the Third Circuit Court in Michigan. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Gretchen Whitmer on July 1, 2021, becoming the first Palestinian American to sit as a judge in the State of Michigan.

Prior to her appointment, Abraham was a magistrate and the director of probation for the 20th District Court in Dearborn Heights. Before that, she spent time as a judicial attorney with the Third Circuit Court as well as a sole practitioner in her own private practice.

Abraham earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Michigan, Dearborn. She then completed a J.D. at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law.

Her memberships have included the Michigan Association of District Court Magistrates and the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan. She has also been involved with the Judicial Ethics Committee of the State Bar of Michigan and the Court Forms Committee of the State Court Administrator’s Office as well as the Wayne County Mental Health Advisory Board, the HYPE Athletics Community Board, and the Arab American Women’s Business Council Board.

Abraham was a resident of Dearborn Heights at the time of her appointment. She and her husband, Marwan, have one daughter.
