Judge Wendy W. Davis - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Wendy W. Davis is a judge for the Allen County Circuit Court in Indiana. She was elected to the bench on November 3, 2020, becoming the first woman to sit on its bench.

Prior to her election, Davis presided as a judge for the Allen County Superior Court (2011 to 2020), where she held an assignment in the Criminal Division. She is also credited with bringing the HOPE Probation program to the Allen County Superior Court.

Before beginning her judicial career, she handled civil federal litigation as a partner at Beckman Lawson and was a part-time deputy prosecutor with the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.

Davis relocated to Fort Wayne, Indiana, after a stint as an assistant district attorney in Bexar County, Texas. During her tenure there, she was appointed to a Drug and Violent Crime Task Force and prosecuted crimes committed by violent offenders and gang members.

Davis received a bachelor’s degree at Wheaton College. She went on to complete a J.D. at Valparaiso University School of Law. Davis was admitted to practice in Indiana (1991) and Texas (1991).

Her memberships include the Allen County Bar Association (past president and board member).

Davis was appointed by the Indiana Supreme Court to serve on the Judicial Probation Committee, which she later chaired. Then, in 2015, she was appointed by former Governor Mike Pence to serve on the state’s newly-established Governor’s Task Force on Drug Enforcement, Treatment, and Prevention. Later that same year, Davis received an invitation to attend a roundtable discussion in Washington, D.C., to help address the national drug problem in the judicial system, through the Institute for Behavior and Health.

From a civic standpoint, she has been involved with the United Way of Allen County (past chair), Women United, the Mayor’s Cities United Task Force, the Indiana Tech Board of Trustees, the Youth for Christ of Northeast Indiana Board of Directors, City Life Urban Ministries, and the Fort Wayne Base Community Council Board of Directors.

Davis is a member of the 2010 class of the Women of Excellence Indiana Lugar Series and the recipient of the Northeast Indiana Women in Leadership Award.

She is a native of Allen County. Her husband, Scott, is a local physician.

She is registered as a Republican.
