Judge Walden E. Shelton: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Walden E. Shelton (Ret.) served as a judge for the Bexar County Court at Law No. 9 in Texas. Shelton was elected to the bench in 2010 and retired in 2018. Since his retirement, he has continued to preside as a visiting judge for the Texas Judicial Bench.


Shelton earned a B.B.A. in finance from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1985. He spent the next eleven years working at Farmers Insurance Group, Southwest Adjustment Co., and Millers Insurance Group. During this time, he completed an M.S.M. in management from The American College (1993) and a J.D. from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law (1998).


After graduating from law school, Shelton entered into private practice. He started as an attorney at the Cartall Law Firm. Then, in 2002, he left the firm and established his own private practice as a sole practitioner. He worked in that capacity until his election to the bench.


His memberships have included the College of the State Bar of Texas, the State Bar of Texas, and Phi Delta Phi.


Shelton was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas.


He is registered as a Republican.
