Judge Vincent A. Culotta: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Vincent A. Culotta is a judge for the Lake County Court of Common Pleas (General Division) in Ohio. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Bob Taft in April 2004.

During his tenure on the Court of Common Pleas, Culotta served as its administrative judge (2005, 2009).

He received a B.S.B.A. in finance from Bowling Green State University in 1987. Culotta went on to complete a J.D. at Ohio State University, Michael E. Moritz College of Law in 1990.

After graduating from law school, he began his legal career as a law clerk for the Lake County Prosecutor's Office. Then, upon completing his clerkship, he began his tenure as an assistant prosecuting attorney there in 1991. He went on to hold assignments in the Juvenile Court (1991) and Felony Division (1991 to 1995). Culotta was later named chief of the Criminal Division in 1995 and remained in that capacity until his appointment to the bench in 2004.

In addition to his position with the Prosecutor’s Office, he acted as a special prosecutor in Ashtabula and Geauga Counties.

His memberships have included the American Bar Association, the Justinian Forum, the Lake County Bar Association, the Lake County Association of Chiefs of Police, the Local Corrections Board of Lake County, the Northeast Ohio Community Alternative Program, the Ohio Common Pleas Judges Association, the Ohio Judicial Conference, and the Ohio State Bar Association.

His civic involvement included the Americans of Italian Heritage Club and the Rotary of Willoughby. Culotta was also a legal advisor and judge for the Ohio High School Mock Trial program.

He received the Victim’s Sensitivity Award from the Lake County Victim’s Assistance Program in 1997.

Culotta is registered as a Republican.
