Biography

The Hon. Veronica A. Galván is a judge for the King County Superior Court in Washington. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Jay Inslee on December 19, 2014, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Gregory Canova.


She began her judicial career as a judge for the Des Moines Municipal Court, a position to which she was selected in 2007. During her tenure there, she implemented the only Spanish-language traffic court in the State of Washington.


Galván earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Western Washington University. She then completed a J.D. at the University of Washington School of Law in 1994.


After graduating from law school, Galván began her legal career as an assistant city attorney for the Office of the Seattle City Attorney. She specialized in the prosecution of domestic violence cases until 2002, at which time she became an administrative law judge for the Office of Administrative Hearings.


Galván has also taught Spanish for lawyers at Seattle University School of Law.


Her memberships have included the District and Municipal Court Judges Association (president), the Washington State Judicial College, and the Des Moines Rotary Club.


She is a recipient of the Juez Exceptional Award from the Latino Bar Association of Washington (2014).


While born in Bremerton, Galván was raised in the Yakima Valley, where her father picked fruit for a living. Her husband, Alex, is a veteran of the United States Army and a junior varsity baseball coach for Chief Sealth International High School.
