Biography

The Hon. Todd L. Van Rysselberghe is a judge for the 5th Judicial District Circuit Court of Oregon. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Kate Brown in 2018, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Robert D. Herndon.


The 5th Judicial District encompasses Clackamas County.


Prior to his appointment, Van Rysselberghe was a partner at Kennedy Watts Arellano. He spent twenty-eight years with the firm, specializing in family law as well as business litigation, professional negligence defense, consumer law, probate, debtor/creditor, intellectual property, products liability, and environmental litigation.


Van Rysselberghe earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Oregon in 1983. He then completed a J.D. at Lewis & Clark Law School in 1988. He is admitted to practice in Oregon (1988), the United States District Court for the District of Oregon (1991), the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit (2003), and the United States Supreme Court (2005).


Van Rysselberghe was a resident of Lake Oswego, Oregon, at the time of his appointment. His memberships have included the Lake Oswego Parks, Recreation & Natural Resources Advisory Board and the Lake Oswego Corporation.
