Judge Timothy J. Martin: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Timothy J. Martin (Ret.) served as an associate judge for the Baltimore County Circuit Court in Maryland. Martin was appointed to the bench by former Governor Bob Ehrlich on November 8, 2005. He retired on March 17, 2015.


Martin earned a bachelor’s degree in modern language from Loyola College in 1967. He spent the next few years serving as a combat engineer platoon leader with the United States Army in Vietnam before completing a J.D. at the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1975. As a law student, Martin clerked for the Hon. John Crason Turnbull of the Baltimore County Circuit Court (1973 to 1975). He also worked as a probation officer for the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services.


After graduating from law school, Martin began his legal career as an assistant state’s attorney with the Baltimore City Office of the State’s Attorney. He served in that capacity until 1977, at which time he transferred to the Baltimore County Office of the State’s Attorney. His time there was brief. The following year, he entered into private practice.


His memberships have included the Maryland State Bar Association and the Baltimore County Bar Association. He also taught as a lecturer at the Maryland Institute for the Continuing Professional Education of Lawyers.


Martin was born in New York City. He attended Loyola High School in Baltimore, Maryland.
