Biography

The Hon. Timothy J. Dufficy is a Justice of the Queens County Supreme Court, Civil Term in the Eleventh Judicial District of New York. He was elected to the Supreme Court bench in 2012. Prior to that, Justice Dufficy served as an elected judge for the Queens County Civil Court from 2003 to 2011.

He received his bachelor’s degree from Queens College. He went on to earn his J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law.

After graduating from law school, Dufficy first worked as an attorney with the law firm Manton, Pennisi, and Dowd.

Then, in 1980, he became an assistant district attorney with the Queens County District Attorney’s Office. After three years with the D.A.’s office, Dufficy then joined the New York State Unified Court System in 1984, where he worked as a principal law clerk until his election to the Civil Court in 2003.

Justice Dufficy has served as a trustee of the Jamaica Hospital and Medisys Corporation. His other memberships have included the Association of Supreme Court Justices of the State of New York, the Assistant District Attorneys Association of Queens County, the Columbian Lawyers Association, the Queens County Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, and the Catholic Lawyers Guild.

His parents, John F. Dufficy and the Hon. Ann B. Dufficy, met as naval officers during World War II. His mother would go on to become a Queens County Supreme Court Justice, and his father practiced as an attorney in New York.
