Judge Timothy B. Fennessy - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Timothy B. Fennessy is a judge for the Spokane County Superior Court in Washington. He was elected to the bench in 2016.

Prior to his election, Fennessy had practiced as a partner at the Layman Law Firm PLLP since 2014. He first joined the firm in 2010. Fennessy had worked as a private practice attorney since beginning his legal career in 1983. During his tenure in private practice, he argued before the Washington State Supreme Court, the Idaho State Supreme Court, and the Washington State Court of Appeals (Division III). His areas of practice included issues involving medical malpractice, construction law, personal injury claims, water rights, eminent domain, and insurance defense.

He received a B.A. in political science from Gonzaga University in 1979. Fennessy also completed a J.D. at Gonzaga University School of Law in 1983.

His memberships included the Washington State Bar Association and the Spokane Chapter of the Charles L. Powell Inn of Court. He has also sat as a member of the Gonzaga University School of Law Board of Advisors, and he was the development chair of its Alumni Association.

Fennessy is a native of Libby, Montana, where he graduated from Libby Senior High School. He is married and has two children.
