Biography

The Hon. Theresa A. Bisenius is an associate justice for the Essex County Probate and Family Court in Massachusetts. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Deval Patrick on March 23, 2012, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Mary McCauley Manzi.

Bisenius earned a bachelor’s degree in English and psychology from Boston College in 1982. She then completed a J.D. at Suffolk University Law School in 1986.

After graduating from law school, Bisenius entered into private practice, where she specialized in criminal defense, domestic relations, and family law matters. She started as an associate in the Law Office of Joseph Machera in Revere. Then, in 1991, she opened her own private practice as a sole practitioner in Boston.

In 2000, Bisenius relocated to Essex County. At that time, she became of counsel to a small law firm in Salem. She worked in that capacity until 2004, when she returned to life as a sole practitioner in her own private practice in Danvers.

Bisenius was a resident of West Newbury at the time of her appointment.
