The Hon. Terrie E. Roberts is a judge for the San Diego County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Gavin Newsom in 2019. At the time, she filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Gerald C. Jessop (Ret.).
She is a registered Democrat.
Judge Roberts earned a J.D. from Arizona State University, Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law in 1991.
Shortly after graduating from law school, Roberts joined the San Diego Public Defender’s Office, where she worked as a deputy public defender from 1992 until 1995.
Upon her departure from the Public Defender’s Office, she entered into private practice. She practiced briefly as an associate at the Law Offices of Beatrice W. Kemp before going into solo practice at her own law firm in 1996. While in solo practice, Roberts handled cases involving contract disputes, personal injury, and criminal defense.
In 2001, she returned to the public sector to join the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office, where she served as a deputy district attorney for seven years. During her tenure there, her caseload included crimes involving robberies, attempted murder, rape, and sexually violent predators.
Then, in 2008, Roberts was selected to serve as a court commissioner for the San Diego County Superior Court. She was serving in that capacity at the time of her appointment to the bench.
Her memberships have included the California Judges Association, the San Diego County Judges Association, and the National Association of Women Judges.
