Judge Terri L. Kohlrieser: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Terri L. Kohlrieser is a judge for the Allen County Court of Common Pleas (General Division) in Ohio. She was elected to the bench in 2018 to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. David A. Cheney (Ret.). At the time, Kohlrieser held the distinction of being the first woman elected judge of the Court of Common Pleas in Allen County.

Prior to her election, she worked for over ten years as an assistant prosecuting attorney with the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office. During that time, Kohlrieser prosecuted felony cases and was named chief assistant prosecutor.

In the interim, after her election to the bench, Kohlrieser worked for five months as a magistrate for the court in an effort to avoid potential conflicts of interest from her previous position at the Prosecutor’s Office.

Her legal career also included working as a judicial staff attorney for the Hon. Stephen R. Shaw with the Ohio Third District Court of Appeals and a judicial law clerk for the Hancock County Court of Common Pleas.

Kohlrieser received a B.S. in criminal justice from the University of Toledo. She went on to complete a J.D. at Ohio Northern University, Claude W. Pettit College of Law.

She was a board member of Crime Victim Services and a founding member of the Child Advocacy Center of NW Ohio/National District Attorneys Association. She has also held memberships with the Ohio Bar Association, the Ohio Prosecuting Attorneys Association, and the Allen County Bar Association.

Kohlrieser was named the Outstanding Assistant Prosecutor of the Year by the Ohio Prosecuting Attorneys Association.

She is married and has two children. Her husband, the Hon. Todd E. Kohlrieser, presides as a judge for the Probate and Juvenile Division of the Allen County Court of Common Pleas.

Kohlrieser is registered as a Republican.
