Judge Tanya Garrison: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Tanya Garrison is a judge for the 157th District Court of Texas in Harris County. She was elected to the bench in 2018.

During her judicial tenure, Garrison has served on the Civil Court.

She received a bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University in 1997. Garrison went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Houston Law Center in 2000.

She practiced law at Weycer, Kaplan, Pulaski & Zuber, P.C. until her election to the bench, where she handled civil litigation with an emphasis on appellate law.

Garrison is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and a past president of the Houston Young Lawyers Association. In 2011, she was named the Woodrow B. Seals Outstanding Young Lawyer. Garrison has served on the boards of various organizations providing pro bono legal services to low-income Houstonians. She also served as the Cookie Mom for four years for her daughter's Girl Scout troop.

When not presiding over legal matters, Garrison has helped with her husband's championship BBQ cook-off team. She is a fan of the Houston Texans and the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

Garrison was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
