Biography

The Hon. Steven Z. Mostofsky is an acting justice for the Kings County Supreme Court (Civil Term) in the Second Judicial District of New York. He was designated to the post in 2017, where he has presided over the Kings County Mental Hygiene Court.

Mostofsky was initially elected to the Civil Court of the City of New York in Kings County in 2013. Shortly after his election, he was designated to the Family Court of the City of New York in Kings County by Chief Administrative Judge A. Gail Prudenti.

Prior to his election, Mostofsky worked as a sole practitioner in his own private practice, where he specialized in matrimonial and family law matters for mostly Orthodox clients for seventeen years. Before that, he held various positions with the New York State Unified Court System. During his tenure there, he worked as a law assistant for the Hon. Leon Deutsch of the Family Court of the City of New York in Kings County, a principal law clerk for the Hon. Barry Hurowitz of the Kings County Supreme Court, and a court attorney for the Hon. Sarah L. Krauss of the Civil Court of the City of New York in Kings County.

Mostofsky earned a B.A. from Yeshiva College. He then completed a J.D. at New York Law School in 1982.

He served as president of the National Council of Young Israel from 2000 to 2012.

Mostofsky was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He speaks Yiddish and identifies as a modern Orthodox Jew.
