Biography

The Hon. Stephen D. Schuett is a judge for the Superior Court of Kern County in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2010, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Stephen P. Gildner.

Schuett earned a B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles. He continued his studies there, eventually completing an M.A. in economics as well as a J.D.

He began his legal career in 1979. He first worked as an associate Pierson and Letteau. Three years later, he joined City National Bank as associate counsel. He worked there for two years before moving to Chain Younger.

Then, in 1985, Schuett entered the public sector. He accepted a position as deputy county counsel with the Office of County Counsel of Kern County. He was promoted to assistant county counsel three years later, a position he would hold until his appointment to the bench.

Schuett was born and raised in Bakersfield. He graduated from Bakersfield High School.

He is registered as a Republican.
