Judge Shondeana C. Morris

Biography

The Hon. Shondeana C. Morris is a judge for the DeKalb County Superior Court in Georgia. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Brian Kemp on June 17, 2019.

Prior to her appointment, Morris was a judge for the DeKalb County State Court, a position to which she was selected in 2015. She held assignments in the Traffic Division, eventually becoming its Presiding Judge in 2017.

Morris earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Georgia and a master’s degree in criminal justice from Albany State University. She then completed a J.D. at Mercer University, Walter F. George School of Law in 1997.

After graduating from law school, Morris began her legal career as an assistant solicitor for the Fulton County Solicitor General’s Office in Atlanta. She worked in that capacity until 1999, at which time she joined the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office. During her tenure there, she served as a deputy district attorney, tasked with leading the Public Integrity Unit, the Crimes Against Women and Children Unit, and the Community Prosecution Unit.

Her memberships have included the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys, the DeKalb County Bar Association, the Gate City Bar Association, and the Lawyers Club of Georgia. She sits on the Criminal Justice Advisory Board for Atlanta Technical College and the Board of the International Women’s House, a non-profit domestic violence shelter. She is also involved with the Stone Mountain-Lithonia Chapter of Jack and Jill and the Lions Club.

She is a recipient of the Trial Advocacy Award from the Association of Government Attorneys in Capital Litigation (2009) as well as the Pota E. Coston Trailblazer Award and the Pinnacle Leadership Award from the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

Raised in DeKalb County, Morris attended Lakeside High School. She is married to Joe Morris, an attorney. They have two children and serve as foster parents under the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services.
