Biography

The Hon. Sharon A.B. Clarke is a judge for the Criminal Court of the City of New York in Kings County. She was first elected to the Kings County Civil Court in 2015 and then designated to the Criminal Court by the Hon. A. Gail Prudenti, former Chief Administrative Judge of the State of New York, later that same year.

Judge Clarke is a registered Democrat.

She received her bachelor’s degree from Brooklyn College. Clarke graduated with her master’s degree in public policy and administration from Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government and completed her J.D. from the City University of New York Law School in 1993.

Prior to her election to the Civil Court, Clarke had served as the founder and CEO of the Central Brooklyn Legal Services Corp. Her legal experience also includes working as deputy general counsel at the New York State Division of Human Rights, as corporation counsel at the New York City Law Department, and as an attorney in the Criminal Division of the Legal Aid Society in Queens, New York.

Clarke served on the Matrimonial Access to Justice Task Force in 2004 and on former Governor David Patterson’s New York Hate Crimes Task Force in 2009. She has also served on the Government Cyber Security Task Force.

Judge Clarke was born in Guyana in South America and immigrated to Brooklyn, New York with her parents at the age of thirteen.
