Biography

The Hon. Roy H. Wiggins is a judge for the Mecklenburg County District Court in the 26th Judicial District of North Carolina. He joined the bench in 2018.

Prior to beginning his judicial career, Wiggins operated his own private practice, the Law Office of Roy H. Wiggins, in Charlotte since 1995. Before establishing his law firm, he worked for almost four years as an assistant district attorney with the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office (1991 to 1995) and was an associate at Downer, Walters & Mitchener, P.A. (1990 to 1991).

Wiggins received a B.B.A. in marketing from East Carolina University in 1984. He then completed a J.D. at Campbell University, Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law, in 1990. Wiggins was admitted to practice in North Carolina, the United States District Court for the Middle and Western Districts of North Carolina, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

His memberships include the Mecklenburg County Bar, the North Carolina Advocates for Justice, the North Carolina Bar Association, and the American Bar.

Wiggins was also involved with the Dahlia Grove Board of Directors (chair), the Sanctuary Counseling Group Board of Directors, the Aldersgate Continuing Care Retirement Community Board of Directors (chair), and the Appalachian Service Project. In addition, he served as a Sunday School teacher, youth leader, confirmation mentor, and church council member at St. Stephen United Methodist Church.

He is registered as a Democrat.
