The Hon. Robert W. Doyle (Ret.) was a justice of the Suffolk County Supreme Court in the Tenth Judicial District of New York. He was elected to the Supreme Court in 1982 and was retained in subsequent elections. Doyle retired in 2011.
While on the Supreme Court bench, he served as the supervising judge of the Civil Parts in Suffolk County (2000), associate justice of the Supreme Court of the City of New York, Appellate Term, Second Judicial Department in the Ninth and Tenth Judicial Districts (2000 to 2003), and as the presiding judge of the Appellate Term (2003 to 2004). As a Supreme Court justice, Doyle presided over a Trial Assignment Part and Calendar Control. He began his judicial career as a judge for the Suffolk County Court in 1977.
Doyle received a bachelor’s degree from Niagara University. He also completed a J.D. at St. John’s University School of Law in 1960.
Prior to joining the bench, he worked in private practice as a civil trial attorney and trial counsel (1960 to 1976).
His memberships included the Suffolk County Bar Association, the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, the Catholic Lawyers Guild, the New York State Bar Association, the Supreme Court Committee (past chairman), the New York State Association of Supreme Court Justices, and the Suffolk County Community College’s Paralegal Advisory Committee.
Doyle received the Distinguished Alumni Award from St. John’s University School of Law (1999), the Case Management Award from the Suffolk Trial Lawyers Association (1994), and was named Judge of the Year by the Suffolk County Criminal Bar Association (1981).
After retiring from the bench, Doyle became a hearing officer at NAM.
