Biography

The Hon. Robert R. Makemson (Ret.) was a judge for the 19th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. Makemson joined the bench in 1989. He retired in 2015.


The 19th Judicial Circuit encompasses Indian River County, Martin County, Okeechobee County, and Saint Lucie County.


Prior to his appointment, Makemson was an attorney in private practice. Before that, he spent time as an assistant county attorney with the Martin County Attorney's Office (1978 to 1980).


Makemson received his B.A. from the University of Florida in 1970. He went on to earn a J.D. from Stetson University College of Law in 1973.


After graduating from law school, Makemson began his legal career as an assistant public defender with the Office of the Public Defender for the 17th Judicial Circuit. Makemson held this position until entering into private practice in 1976.


He was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
