Judge Robert P. Brotherton: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Robert P. Brotherton (Ret.) served as a judge for the 30th District Court in Wichita County, Texas. Brotherton joined the bench in 1989, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Calvin Ashley. He retired on December 31, 2018. He continues to serve as a visiting judge for the Wichita County District Court.

Prior to his appointment, Brotherton served as an associate municipal judge for the City of Wichita Falls Municipal Court (1984 to 1989). He has also worked as an assistant district attorney for the Wichita County District Attorney's Office (1980 to 1982), as well as a partner at Brotherton & Thompkins (1982 to 1989) and an associate at the Law Offices of Mack Ray Hernandez (1979 to 1980).

Brotherton earned a B.B.A. in marketing from the University of North Texas in 1973. Then, in 1979, he completed a J.D. at the University of Texas at Austin School of Law.

His memberships have included the Rotary Club of Wichita Falls and the Northwest Texas Council of Boy Scouts of America.
