Biography

Hon. Robert M. Kawahara is a commissioner for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He was elected to the bench by the Los Angeles County Superior Court judges in 2002.


At the time of his election, Kawahara managed his own private solo practice in downtown Los Angeles. Before opening his practice, he had practiced alongside his brother, Glenn Kawahara, for two years. His areas of practice included personal injury, business litigation, and family law.


Kawahara received a B.A. from the University of California. He went on to complete a J.D. at the University of San Francisco School of Law.


He was admitted to practice in California in 1980.


Kawahara is a past president of the Japanese American Bar Association of Southern California.


He received the Pro Bono Service Award from the Asian Americans Advancing Justice in 1997.
