Judge Robert I. Caloras - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Robert I. Caloras is a Justice of the Queens County Supreme Court, Civil Term in the Eleventh Judicial District of New York. He was elected to the Supreme Court bench in 2019.

Before his election to the Supreme Court, Justice Caloras had served as a judge for the Queens County Family Court since 2013. He was appointed to the Family Court by the Hon. A. Gail Prudenti, former Chief Administrative Judge of the State of New York in 2013. His other judicial position included serving as a judge for the Civil Court of the City of New York in Queens County. Justice Caloras was first appointed to the Civil Court in 2012 by former Mayor Michael Bloomberg in 2012 and was then elected to the seat in 2013.

He is a registered Democrat.

Justice Caloras received his B.A. from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1981. He went on to earn his J.D. from Yeshiva University, Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 1985.

Prior to his appointment to the Civil Court, Caloras had served as a Queens County Supreme Court principal law clerk for twenty years. Before becoming a law clerk, he served as an assistant district attorney with the Queens County District Attorney’s Office, where he was assigned to the D.A.’s Appeals Bureau.

He was a past president of the Community Education Council of District 26 and also served on the Community Board 11 as well as the Deepdale Blood Drive.
