Biography

The Hon. Richard Velasquez is a justice on the Kings County Supreme Court in the 2nd Judicial District of New York. Velasquez was elected to the Supreme Court bench in 2008 and re-elected in 2022.

The 2nd Judicial District includes Kings County. Velasquez has held an assignment in the Civil Term.

Prior to his election, Velasquez presided as a judge on the Civil Court of the City of New York in Kings County, a position to which Chief Administrative Judge Jonathan Lippman appointed him in 2006.

Velasquez earned a J.D. from the City University of New York School of Law at Queens College. He was admitted to practice in New York (1993).

Velasquez is registered as a Democrat.
