Judge Raymond F. Clary - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Raymond F. Clary is a judge for the Spokane County Superior Court in Washington. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Jay Inslee in December 2014. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Tari S. Eitzen (Ret.).

During his tenure on the Superior Court, Clary has held an assignment in the Juvenile Court.

At the time of his appointment, he was a partner at Etter, McMahon, Lamberson, Clary & Oreskovich P.C. Clary had practiced as a civil litigation attorney since 1983.

Clary also sat as a pro tem judge on the City of Medical Lake Municipal Court (1992).

He received a B.A. from Eastern Washington University in 1979. Clary went on to complete a J.D. at Gonzaga University School of Law in 1983. In law school, he was a Thomas More Scholar (1980 to 1983) and associate editor of the Gonzaga Law Review.

Clary provided pro bono work for students with Washington Interscholastic Activities Association eligibility issues and was a consultant to the National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth. In addition, he provided pro bono counsel through Volunteers of American and was the advisory director for thirteen years at Morning Star Boys’ Ranch (1994 to 2007).

His memberships included the Washington State Bar Association, the Idaho State Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the Spokane County Bar Association.

Clary was a youth football coach for Pop Warner, YMCA, and the Spokane Youth Sports Association and the founder of the Free Football Mini Camp for children in the 5th through 8th grades.

He received the Community Impact Award from the Martin Luther King, Jr. Family Outreach Center, the Pro Bono Publico Service Commendation from the Washington State Bar Association, and the Outstanding Pro Bono Service Award from the Spokane County Bar Volunteer Lawyers Program.

Clary is a former Golden Gloves Boxing Champion.
