The Hon. Randy L. Edwards is a judge for the Kings County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown in 2018. He filled the vacancy created by the elevation of the Hon. Thomas DeSantos to the Court of Appeal.
Judge Edwards is registered without party preference.
Edwards served in active duty as a URL officer in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1975 to 1979 and as a judge advocate from 1982 to 1991. Edwards retired from the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves in 1998 having reached the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
While in the Marine Corps, Edwards received his B.A. from Colorado State University in 1975 and his M.A. from Pepperdine University in 1979. Edwards went on to earn his J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 1982.
After completing his military service, Edwards entered into private practice. He first worked as an associate at the law firm Griswold, LaSalle, Cobb, Dowd, and Gin LLP beginning in 1991. Four years later, Edwards was a made a partner at the firm. He remained in that position until his appointment to the Superior Court in 2018.
His memberships have included the California Council of School Attorneys, the California Public Defenders Association, the Attorneys for Criminal Justice, the Kings County Bar Association, and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.
In 1997, Edwards co-wrote a book about the air strike attack leveled against the USS Stark in the Persian Gulf in 1987.
