Biography

The Hon. R. Anthony Salem is a judge for the 4th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Ron DeSantis on April 3, 2020, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Linda McCallum.


The 4th Judicial Circuit encompasses Clay County, Duval County, and Nassau County. Salem has held assignments in Duval County, presiding over cases in the Criminal Division.


Prior to his appointment, Salem was a judge for the Duval County Court, a position to which he was named in 2019. Before that, he spent time as assistant general counsel for the City of Jacksonville (2017 to 2019) as well as an assistant state attorney for the 4th Judicial Circuit. Over the course of his legal career, Salem specialized in employment litigation and civil litigation defense. He also handled cases involving automobile and trucking negligence, product liability, and premise liability.


Salem earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Florida. He then completed a J.D. at Stetson University College of Law in 2010.


His memberships have included the Jacksonville Bar Association, the Jacksonville Chapter of the Federalist Society, the Jacksonville Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, and the Ramallah American Club of Jacksonville.


Salem was a resident of Jacksonville, Florida, at the time of his appointment.


He is registered as a Republican.
