Judge Quincy L. Coleman - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Quincy L. Coleman is an associate judge for the Howard County Circuit Court in the Fifth Judicial Circuit of Maryland. He was elected to the bench in 2020.

Prior to his election, Coleman had managed his own private practice, the Law Office of Quincy Coleman, since 2012. Before that, he spent twelve years as an assistant public defender in Baltimore City (2000 to 2012).

Coleman received a B.S. in political science from Frostburg State University in 1977. He then spent several years working as a land records clerk with the Baltimore City Circuit Court (1978 to 1979) and a senior agent in the Division of Parole and Probation with the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (1979 to 2000) before completing his J.D. at the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1992.

Coleman was admitted to practice in Maryland (1999), the District of Columbia (2011), and the United States District Court for the District of Maryland (2014).

His memberships have included the Maryland State Bar Association, the Howard County Bar Association, the Waring Mitchell Law Society, and the Monumental City Bar Association. Coleman also spent time as a judge for the Byron L. Warnken Moot Court Competition and was an instructor at Anne Arundel Community College.

Coleman was born in Baltimore, where he attended Edmonson High School. He is a member of New Psalmist Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland.

He is registered as a Democrat.
