Biography

The Hon. Patricia O’Brien Sheahan is a Circuit Judge for the Illinois Circuit Court of Cook County. She was elected to the bench in 2014. Judge Sheahan is currently assigned to the Motion Section of the Law Division (Calendar D).

Sheahan earned a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Political Science from Indiana University and completed her J.D. at the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago-Kent College of Law, in 1996.

After graduating from law school, Sheahan went into private practice and worked as an attorney at Baker & McKenzie in the litigation and employment litigation practice groups. From 1999 until her election, she served as Associate General Counsel to the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, where she oversaw all litigation.

She has served on the Board of Directors and the Advisory Board of the Center for Disability and Elder Law, and her memberships have included the Illinois State Bar Association, the Illinois Women's Bar Association, the Chicago-Area In-House Hospital Council, and the Chicago Bar Association.

When not practicing law, Sheahan volunteers at a soup kitchen run by the Evanston Ecumenical Council of Churches. Her husband, T.J. Sheahan, the son of retired Cook County Sheriff Michael F. Sheahan, worked as a partner in the Litigation Group at Freeborn & Peters.

Sheahan is a registered Democrat.
