Judge Patricia Head Moskal - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Patricia Head Moskal is a chancellor for Part I of the 20th Judicial District Chancery Court of Tennessee. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Bill Haslam on January 17, 2019, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Claudia Bonnyman.

The 20th Judicial District encompasses Davidson County.

Prior to her appointment, Moskal was a partner at Bradley Arant Boult Cummings (formerly Boult Cummings Conners & Berry). She practiced with the firm in Nashville for more than thirty years, handling business and commercial cases, administrative law matters, and tax controversies at both the trial and appellate levels.

Moskal earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Indiana University Bloomington in 1976. She spent the next few years teaching special needs children as a psychiatric teacher and counselor for the Smallwood Center at the Moccasin Bend Mental Health Institute in Chattanooga. Then, in 1985, she completed a J.D. at the University of Tennessee College of Law. As a law student, she worked as a student research assistant for Professor Joseph G. Cook.

She is licensed to practice in Tennessee (1985); the United States Circuit Court of Appeals for the 5th, 6th, and 11th Circuits; and the United States Supreme Court.

Her memberships have included the American Bar Foundation, the Tennessee Bar Foundation, the Nashville Bar Foundation, and the Litigation Counsel of America. She has also been involved with the Marion Griffith Chapter of the Lawyers’ Association for Women.

She is a recipient of the Judge Martha Craig Daughtrey Award from the Lawyers’ Association for Women (2018).

Moskal is registered as a Democrat.
