Biography

The Hon. Norman Janowitz (deceased) served as a justice on the Nassau County Supreme Court in the 10th Judicial District of New York. Janowitz was elected to the bench on November 2, 2010. He retired from the bench in 2018.

Prior to his election, Janowitz was a judge on the Matrimonial Part of the Nassau County District Court, a position to which he was named in 1999. Before that, he spent time as an attorney in private practice in East Rockaway (1970 to 1998).

Janowitz earned a B.B.A. from Hofstra University in 1963. He then completed an LL.B. at the Brooklyn Law school in 1966. He was licensed to practice in New York (1967).

Her memberships included the Nassau County Bar Association, the Nassau County Lawyers Association, the Nassau County District Court Judges Association, the Criminal Courts Bar Association, the Jewish Lawyers Association of Nassau County, and the Nassau County Women’s Bar Association.

Raised in Oceanside, New York, Janowitz attended Oceanside High School. When not presiding over legal proceedings, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He passed away on January 4, 2024.

He was registered as a Republican.
