Judge Nannette J. Stomberg: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Nannette J. Stomberg is a commissioner for the Shasta County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench in 2017.

Prior to her appointment, Stomberg sat as a family law facilitator and supervising attorney for the Self-Help Center at the Shasta County Superior Court from 2015 to 2017.

Stomberg earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the University of California, Irvine in 1984. She then completed a J.D. at the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 1992.

After graduating from law school, Stomberg entered into private practice, working as an associate at Milrod & Phillips. During her tenure there, she represented clients in criminal defense, police misconduct, civil rights, and employment discrimination cases. Then, in 1996, she joined the Office of Fresno County Counsel as a deputy county counsel.

In 2004, Stomberg returned to private practice. She spent the next year as of counsel in the Law Offices of Cheri L. Simmons before becoming a partner at Fannon & Stomberg. As a partner, Stomberg represented litigants in family law, domestic violence, juvenile dependency, and criminal proceedings. She worked in that capacity until 2010, at which time she opened her own private practice, the Law Office of Nannette J. Stomberg.

Stomberg switched gears in 2012. She became the Gender Justice Advisor for Pacific Architects and Engineers, working in the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Sector Support Program in the Afghanistan Gender Justice Assistance Section. During that time, she worked with Afghan officials and legal advisors on gender-based violence and victim-witness protection matters. The following year, she continued this work in Afghanistan, this time with the International Development Law Organization.
