Biography

Hon. Monte S. Campbell is a judge for the 12th Judicial District Circuit Court of Oregon in Polk County. He was elected to the bench in 2010, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Charles E. Luukinen (Ret.).

Prior to his election, Campbell was in private practice at Chris Lillegard, P.C. (1996 to 2010) and Con Lynch (1994 to 1995). He handled criminal defense and civil practice, including estate planning, business law, contract law, property law, and domestic relations.

He received a B.S. in political science from Oregon State University in 1991. Campbell went on to complete a J.D. at Willamette University College of Law in 1994.

His memberships have included the Oregon State Bar and the Polk County Bar (past president).

Campbell was vice president of the West Salem Rotary and a member of the Polk County Local Public Safety Coordinating Council, the West Hills Community Church Security Commission, and the West Hills Community Facility Committee.

He also spent time as a coach for Upward Basketball, a volunteer referee, a Little League coach, and a volunteer umpire.

Campbell was raised in rural Oregon, where he attended Klamath Union High School. Inspired by his grandparents, who picked crops as migrant farm workers in the Klamath basin, he worked as a farmer in his early 20s.
