Biography

The Hon. Monica Bachner is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench in 2002 by former governor Gray Davis. She filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Debra W. Yang (Ret.).

Judge Bachner received her B.A. from Harvard University in 1978. She went on to earn her J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1981.

After graduating from law school, Bachner joined the Los Angeles law firm of Kadison, Pfaelzer, Woodard, Quinn, and Rossi, where she practiced as an attorney from 1981 to 1984.

She then joined the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Central District of California, where she served as an assistant U.S. attorney. In 1998 Bachner was named chief prosecutor for the U.S. Attorney's Orange County office. Prior to that, she was serving as senior litigation counsel for their Criminal Division. During her time as a federal prosecutor, she handled narcotics, money laundering, tax evasion, and white-collar crime cases.

She has taught trial advocacy as an adjunct professor at the University of Southern California, Gould School of Law.

Judge Bachner, who hails from Teaneck, New Jersey, enjoys gardening and reading in her free time.
