Biography

The Hon. Mikaela N. Nix-Walker is a judge for the 9th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. She was elected to the bench in 2020, becoming one of the first black female judges elected to the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court.

The 9th Judicial Circuit encompasses Osceola County and Orange County. Nix-Walker has held assignments in both counties, presiding over cases in the Criminal Division and the Domestic Relations Division.

Nix-Walker earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Florida. She spent the next few years working at Boies, Schiller, Flexner before completing a J.D. at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University College of Law in 2009.

After graduating from law school, Nix-Walker entered into private practice as a sole practitioner, specializing in family law matters until her election to the bench.

Her memberships have included the Osceola County Bar Association, the Paul C. Perkins Bar Association, and the Central Florida Family Inns of Court. She also sat on the Board of Directors of the Tiger Bay of Central Florida, the Executive Board of the Central Florida Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and the Orange County Charter Review Commission (2016).

Raised in Miami, Florida, Nix-Walker spent her childhood visiting her family’s farm in Gainesville.
