Biography

The Hon. Miesha S. Darrough is a judge for the Miami-Dade County Court in Florida. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Ron DeSantis in 2019, filling a vacancy created by the elevation of the Hon. Laura Cruz to the Miami-Dade County Circuit Court.

Prior to her appointment, Darrough was special counsel to the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida. Before that, she spent time as an assistant United States attorney in the Office of the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida. During this time, she held assignments in the Appellate Division, the Major Crimes Section, and the Economic & Environmental Crimes Section.

Darrough earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Howard University. She then completed a J.D. at Howard University School of Law in 2005.

After graduating from law school, Darrough began her legal career as an assistant state attorney in the Office of the State Attorney for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit. In that capacity, she served as Chief of the Felony Division, tasked with training and supervising over twenty-five attorneys. She also sat in the Public Corruption Unit, where she prosecuted complex cases involving racketeering, bribery, unlawful compensation, extortion, and fraud.

Her memberships have included the National Black Prosecutors Association, the American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, the Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr. Bar Association, the Gwen S. Cherry Bar Association, the Virgil Hawkins Bar Association, the Miami-Dade County Bar Association, the Cuban American Bar Association, the Haitian Lawyers Association, and the Coral Gables Bar Association.

She has also been involved with the Miami-Dade County Canvassing Board, the Miami Rescue Mission, the Dade County Chapter of the Links, and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She also sat on the Board of Directors for Embrace Girls Foundation and the OIC of South Florida.

Darrough is a recipient of the Prosecution Award from the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (2008), the Outstanding Women Who Mentor Award from the Embrace Girls Foundation (2014), the Outstanding Service Award from Miami Rescue Mission (2015), the Rising Legal Star Award from the Dade County Bar Association (2018), and the Award for Excellence in Investigation from the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency (2019).

Raised in Fort Polk and Leesville, Louisiana, Darrough moved to Miami, Florida, after graduating from law school. She enjoys spending time with her family and traveling.
